She started making pecan rolls and tweaking the recipe to make other delicious candy confections to sell them. When the church was built, people still wanted to buy her chocolates, so the Cavanaugh’s decided to open a candy shop. Marie went to the bank armed with only a one-pound box of chocolates to ask for a loan of $10,000 to open a store. Not only did Marie get the money, but the banker ate the whole box of chocolates during their meeting and gave Marie her first order of 200 pounds of chocolates. Mrs. Cavanaugh’s Chocolates was born. Mrs. Cavanaugh's Chocolates and Ice Cream has been family owned and operated since 1964, and is currently run by the second and third generations of Cavanaughs.
